Nadine Ijaz, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Law and Legal Studies at Carleton University, leads the TCIM Lab. Professor Ijaz’s interdisciplinary research draws on the fields of medical sociology and anthropology, (postcolonial feminist) science and technology studies, and critical policy studies. Her award-winning studies on a range of TCIM practitioner groups draw attention to contentious questions of epistemology, evidence, accessibility, risk discourse, and cultural misappropriation – including in the policy sphere.
Professor Ijaz is presently President-Elect of ISCMR (International Society for Traditional, Complementary & Integrative Medicine Research), a Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Public Health – University of Technology Sydney, and an Assistant Professor (Status-Only) with the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Pharmacy. Prior to her academic career, Professor Ijaz worked for fifteen years as a medical herbalist, nutritional consultant, and shiatsu therapist.
